Inverted F Animal (IFA) Antenna Design Based on PCB Antenna

Falling F Animline (IFA) Compared to MIFA, IFA is a good radiation. A given space availability IFA antenna is better than the MIFA antenna. It has better efficiency. But compared to MIFA, it requires a larger area. IFA is recommended for applications for one of the antenna dimensions, such as heart rate monitors. The following figure shows the layout details of the IFA (top and underlying) recommended in the double-layer PCB. The trace width is 24 mils. The IFA has a design size of 4 mm × 20.5 mm (157.5 mils × 807 MILS) for FR4 PCB with a thickness of 1.6 mm. IFA has a larger aspect ratio (aspect ratio) than MIFA. IFA layout As explained in the MIFA antenna, the feed trace width "W" depends on the PCB stack of the product. Table 4 provides a "W" value of a different PCB thickness between the FR4 base (relative dielectric constant = 4.3) for a coplanar waveguide model and a bottom layer (adjacent RF grounding layer). The "F" value of the following table FR4 PCB: 50-OHM antenna layer and the thickness of the grounding layer of adjacent radio frequency. For short traces of less than 3 mm, the antenna feed thickness can be adjusted. The thickness of the antenna feed can be the same as the thickness of the antenna trace. The IFA is about 2.44 GHz in the bandwidth of 220 MHz (S11 ≤ -10 dB), as shown in the figure below. This information is very useful when applying the IFA antenna for the customer, helping to get the maximum radiation in the direction required.
